Access Solutions is Genentech’s hub for internal and external financial assistance programs, supporting patients and their care teams across indications. The existing website and associated web app were confusing physicians looking for financial assistance for their patients. The entire experience needed to be reimagined to cut down the time it took to get patients on therapy while reducing the caseload of their care teams.

The process began with care team interviews across disease states to better understand their pain points and areas for improvement. Lower-fidelity prototyping allowed for “quick hit” user testing and refinement, which empowered the design team to make the design approach laser-focused on audiences’ needs.
The website, which spans all of Genentech’s approved therapies, was crafted with busy physicians in mind. Its architecture was streamlined, and calls to action drove audiences into actionable content funnels that provided clear next steps based on a patient’s insurance coverage and ability to pay.
Once a program was identified on the Access Solutions website, doctors turned to the MPS web app to process their patients’ applications. The UI was optimized for rapid patient data entry and quick access to a patient’s application status. Developed using React and Google’s Material Design UI framework, the application was engineered to be efficient and responsive.
An extensible design system laid the foundation to align all digital channels, ensuring scalability as the program expanded and evolved.
